The Jason Foundation

When Clark Flatt lost his son, Jason, in 1997 to suicide, he quickly realized how common suicide amongst young individuals is throughout the country. Therefore, Clark developed The Jason Foundation, Inc. (JFI) to help fight this epidemic through raising awareness and educating teachers, parents, students, coaches, and others in recognizing youths who are at-risk for suicide so they can offer help. JFI supplies school-based curriculum and many online development programs, all of which are free.

In Ohio:

  • Suicide is the second leading cause of death for middle and high school age youth (12 – 18).
  • Suicide is the second leading cause of death for college age youth (18 – 22).

The Ohio Youth Risk Behavioral Survey reported:

  • Almost 1 out of 7 young people seriously considered suicide in the past twelve months
  • Almost 1 out of 16 young people attempted suicide in the past twelve months

Ten Lakes Center is pleased to be a partner of JFI to help end the presence of youth suicide. Individuals within Ohio who want to participate in the fight against youth suicide can reach out to Ten Lakes Center to learn more, obtain appropriate resources, and get trained on how to identify and help at-risk youth. All materials offered through JFI are free to the consumer.
